LIFEBOAT

LIFEBOAT

A RESTORATIVE PROGRAMME FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

Lifeboat is an interactive groupwork programme using the concept of a boat trip to encourage participants to work together to develop problem solving, communication and decision making skills.

“Rehabilitation happens when teenagers feel connected to their communities and confront their mistakes”.

Joaquin E DiazDeLeon, former Fresno gang member

The programme, delivered over 6 x 2.5 hour sessions,  draws on Restorative Practice, Social Learning and Cognitive Behavioural Theories to explore attitudes, values and beliefs that impact on behaviour.  Techniques are introduced that encourage young people to explore connection with their environment, with aim of reducing conflict and repairing harm; and support positive changes in attitudes and behaviour, which contribute to the creation of a restorative culture.
